It is only April, but the campaign season is already at full speed. Despite pledges of bipartisanship made just a year ago, the new majority in Congress consistently and unabashedly tried to exclude the minority from having a voice on the important issues of the day.
But you sent me to Washington to fight for you – and I have stood firm on your behalf. As a matter of fact, the Republican Minority in Congress has been called “unusually effective” after securing key wins on behalf of American taxpayers and troops.
Whether it’s making sure the men and women on the front lines have the resources they need, protecting 23 million taxpayers from paying the alternative minimum tax (AMT), or holding the line on wasteful spending, I have let my voice be heard on your behalf.
And the fight will continue over the next few weeks as Congress addresses the unprecedented challenges to our economy. Unfortunately, their “solution” is always the same … raise taxes on middle-class families, and cut military spending to levels that will cost Northeast Florida jobs and threaten our national security!
What we really need is a pro-growth stimulus package that returns money to American taxpayers and not a plan that increases an already out-of-control federal government budget.
I am proud to be making a difference, ensuring that your voice is heard when important issues are debated in Congress. But, as much as we’ve accomplished, there’s so much more for us to do – from military preparedness to immigration reform, from keeping our promises to our veterans to holding the line on federal spending.
The issues are too important. The stakes are too high. I hope you’ll allow me the privilege and opportunity to build on our success and to make an even greater difference on your behalf. It is a privilege to represent you in Washington and I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail!
